UNRWA Urges Entry of 600 Aid Trucks Daily to Prevent Further Gaza Catastrophe

Jerusalem: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued an urgent call for a sustained and large-scale humanitarian response in Gaza, warning that a minimum of 500 to 600 aid trucks must enter the territory every day to prevent the humanitarian disaster from worsening.

In a public statement shared on X, UNRWA emphasized that only a "meaningful and uninterrupted flow of aid into Gaza" can stop the current crisis from spiraling further out of control. “The people of Gaza cannot wait any longer,” the agency stated.

Since Israel partially lifted its total blockade of Gaza last week, Israeli military sources claim that approximately 300 trucks have entered the enclave. However, a Palestinian official has disputed this figure, stating that only 92 trucks have actually been allowed in, highlighting the vast gap between reported numbers and reality on the ground. The discrepancy has intensified calls for international oversight and transparency in aid delivery.

UNRWA, along with other humanitarian organizations, has consistently warned that the trickle of aid currently reaching Gaza is nowhere near sufficient to meet the needs of the more than two million people trapped in the besieged strip. With basic infrastructure collapsed and widespread food insecurity, the lack of consistent aid convoys has resulted in growing desperation, especially among children, the elderly, and the sick.

This appeal by UNRWA comes amid mounting criticism of Israel's handling of humanitarian access. International agencies have pointed out that logistical restrictions, security checks, and political obstacles are severely hampering the ability to deliver life-saving aid. The situation remains volatile, and unless the number of trucks increases dramatically under UN management, aid officials fear that Gaza’s already catastrophic conditions could soon become irreversible.
